PROJECT CASE STUDIES

bodily autonomy for all in a post-roe era

When the US Supreme Court decision for Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization was released, Darci helped to lead efforts to ensure Chicago remained a haven for safe, legal, and accessible abortion care for all. This included:

  • Developing the Justice for All pledge which signaled that the City would continue to be a safe haven for all who are unjustly denied the resources and opportunities they deserve; to fight for the rights of all people; and to ensure that no person will be attacked, assaulted, bullied, or discriminated against because of who they are, the choices they make regarding their bodily autonomy, or who they love
  • Passed key legislation to prohibit discrimination and retaliation in the workplace as well as at home against individuals or those they love who sought abortion care or gender affirming care
  • Mayor Lightfoot signed an Executive Order followed by passing supplemental legislation that prohibits all City departments and agencies from participating in any investigation or proceeding from a restrictive law State (e.g. a State where abortion has been made illegal to some degree). This action aims to ensure that any person—whether Chicago resident or otherwise—can seek care in Chicago without fear of legal consequence by a restrictive state.
  • Funded and stood up the first Office of Reproductive Health at the Chicago Department of Health
